Polymer Clays Eyes

Today, I worked on a tutorial for making polymer clay eyes. These little buggers are so much fun to make. I made fourteen pairs of eyes, that's twenty-eight eyeballs altogether. They are about the size of dime. I still have a long way to go the tutorial and since I have never done one quite so big, I don't know when I'll be done with it. But needless to say, I hope to be done soon. The picture was taken just before they went into the oven.

And speaking of eyes, Forest Rogers has a new sculpt posted on her blog. It is a unicorn with really awesome eyes.

Two New Artists to Check Out

As the title says, I have added two artists to links. One is an assemblage and collage artist named Michael deMeng. The other is a figurative sculptor named Lisa Clague. Perhaps you may find a new source of inspiration from these two. Have fun.

Goblin King and Queen WIP

Well as much as I love working with paper clay, I don't like having to wait on it to dry. My base for Usha Mauvais, despite drying out in the oven overnight, still needs to sit a few days before I can sculpt on it. So in the meantime, I decided to make some new eyes. These two characters came about as a result. I don't know if any of you are famaliar with Aleksander Rou's movies, but he is a Russian director who specialized in Russian fairy tales. I love his stuff! I just watched The Golden Horns the other night and there are lots of goblins in the movie along with Baba Yaga. How awesome is that! So I thought to myself, that I have to make some goblins next. Here is the result. Their heads measure roughly an inch and a half. Stay tuned for more pictures of their progress.

Usha Mauvais

I have named my newest sculpt Usha Mauvais. According to 20000-names.com/evil_names, Usha is a female Hindi myth name of a demon princess, daughter of heaven, and sister of night, meaning "dawn." Mauvais is a French adjective which means evil. So there is her name. I have to name my dolls while I am working on them because it reinforces the theme of the work.

In addition, I am trying to work the doll as a whole. Meaning I am working all the elements at the same time which includes the doll and the base. You can see what I am trying to say with the photos.

Lindwinkle OOAK Paperclay Cloth Dragon Now on Ebay

I have finished my sleeping baby dragon. His name is Lindwinkle. This is his story.

Deep within the mysterious lands of Crystal Cliffs Marsh perched high on a stone ledge, Little Lindwinkle is taking a nap. His parents, Garwinkle and Waywinkle, are currently searching for his next meal. Anything will do really, an errant knight, a plow horse from the fields and the farmer too. Lindwinkle is just a few months old. His wings are still too tiny to carry him, but it will not be to long now before he can fly around the skies with his parents.

He is one-of-a-kind dragon. No molds were used in creating him. He is made from Paperclay, an air dry clay, sculpted on a cloth armature. He is 6 inches tall and 7 inches wide. He is painted using artist quality acrylic paints. His ears are reinforced with wire and plastic. I had a blast making him.

New doll in the works.

I didn't like the open mouth. So, I sculpted some new lips, closing her mouth and giving her a slight smile. Also, her eyes needed some work. They were too sunken for my tastes. So I added some "flesh" to her brow making her look a little less scary.
Her eyes are handmade by yours truly.
Be sure to check back for more updates on this doll. She is going to be a dark fairy or succubus.

Avarona Milkweed Completed

I have put the finishing touches on my fairy. Today, I finished her skirt, wings and crown of flowers. Avarona Milkweed stands at 26 inches. She is the biggest doll I have made to date. I must admit it is rewarding to work on such a large scale. Will collectors be interested in a fairy doll of this size? We'll just have to see. Someone has suggested putting a reserve on her, but I think I will start the bidding off at the price I want and see where it goes from there. In the meantime, here are a few pictures of her. Please enjoy.

Avarona Milkweed Paint Job

Here are some photos of Avarona's paint job.

Lindwinkle Sleeping Baby Dragon WIP

I just finished painting Avarona Milkweed. She needs to dry thouroughly before she gets a spray of matt varnish. It took five and a half hours to finish her paint job.

In the meantime, I have begun my baby dragon, Lindwinkle. Since I am about to have some lunch, I don't have time to go into too many details about him. However, I will mention that he is made out of a soft sculpture armature and paperclay.

Also, I am very happy to annouce that Orangeblossom Danderfluff has a new home. Thank you so much to her new owner.
