Here is an update on my Big Nose Fae. She is now holding a baby. I completely re-did her feet, meaning I chopped off the original ones and replaced them with paperclay feet. I used the same treatment on her legs like I did with her arms. Her shoes are made from the same brocade satin as her bodice with little wooden beads for trim. The sleeves were also fixed. I sewed the ends closed and trimmed them with the same gold gimp. I still need to iron her skirt. Above she does not have any wings. Below are the same wings I made for her originally, but I am leaning towards not having any wings. However, Sherry Goshon made some great suggestions for integrating the wings. But then again, I may not use the wings at all. She'll wind up being an elf.
I hand dyed the silk to match the flower on my Big Nose Fae's hat. Originally, I was going to use the silk on the skirt, but it just didn't look right to me. So I used it to costume the little baby. I used historical photos of swaddled babies as a starting point for my baby fae. I echoed the adult fae's hat on the baby and used the same wooden beads on the baby as I did on the big fae's shoes.
Now I need to make some sort of chair for my fae and her baby. But I think in the meantime I am going to work on another fae. This doll has been quite a challenge for me. One I am learning an awful lot from.
Stay tuned for more updates of this doll. I appreciate any comments you would like to leave.
Happy Dollmaking,
Melisa

How wonderful! Now I know what she is so serious about. :) Love the feet too. I think she is great without the wings.
Thanks, Katie. I am leaning towards no wings myself. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.
Oh she is turning out to be gorgeous. Although I personally like wings, I don't think that this doll needs them. Save them for another one. The baby is the perfect addition. She looks like a nursemaid. What's her name?
Someone said this doll reminds them of "Nursey" from "Romeo and Juliet." Ever since then, I've been calling her Nursey. I like it. :)
Lovely, lose the wings...........
She's wonderful and love her holding the baby. The colors are just right for them. My granddaughter Brittany is here with me looking and she said, I like the Big Nose Fae and her baby.
Thank you so much. What a lovely thing to say!
Oh! Your doll looks so much better now. I like her without the wings as it gives her a much more professional look. The baby is the perfest one to add and is so precious. How big is that baby? You have a great piece of art here!
hugs Karen
Thank you Karen. The baby is about 3 1/2 inches long. It is definitely one of the smallest pieces I have sculpted in paperclay.
I love this piece- the baby is especially wonderful!
