handsculpted big nose fairy 04

Here is an update regarding Octavia Delarue. Her head is now attached to a cloth body. I glue a 3/8" wooden dowel into the head and then insert it into the cloth body. When I am satisfied with the angle and position, I smear glue on the dowel and then sew the cloth body neck opening closed. Then it's time to add a 1/4" layer of paperclay around the dowel. Then I place the doll in an 170 degree oven for about two hours. This drys out the clay and secures the head in place so I can continue to sculpt.

Hi Melissa...I finally decided to have a go at paperclay over cloth...and knew where to come for a look anyway...but, I have not idea where to begin...so... I have been tentatively putting some paperclay on an old cloth head today.

I see that you do several layers..so I'll be putting on a bit more tomorrow... to see what I can come up with. I didn't bother with anything for eyes ...seeing as I knew this would just be an experiment. I must continue looking at all of your entries...to see what knowledge I can glean...

It looks like you use fairly large pieces of clay for the hair... although I am not sure how that works..yet.... I might have to pick you brain a bit some day... I'll be back for sure looking...

let me finish by saying I went backwards through all the entries...and must say a belated congrats on your little one.... she is pretty sweet....
