Queen Vasina and Judy

Here are the last two dolls of the year. Judy I finished about a week ago, and Queen Vasina was completed about a month ago. Happy New Year!

Tying up loose ends before the year is over.

Here is my Blue Fairy, which is now Blue Pixie. She is up for sale in my Etsy shop. I took off her legs and replaced them with new thighs and button joints. I had a lot of fun making her dress. I melted parts of the organza to soften the skirt egdes and to add interest and texture. Also, the black lace on her black petticoat has been sliced up to "soften the edges" of her skirt. Her bodice is simply gathered broadcloth and to finish I used a wide blue satin ribbon as a waistband. She has black wefted mohair and a curly felt hat. Her hat is inspired by my love of long liripipes worn in the middle ages. I added some Noh eyebrows which from this day I shall refer to nobrows. It is my world and I can have a silly lexicon. :P

In the next few days, I will post pictures of dolls that I started on but put aside for one reason or another. At the moment, I working on some new techniques for the doll competition in Denver. So, please enjoy these photos and as always happy dollmaking.

Christmas Pixies

I made these pixies as Christmas presents this year.

What would my doll look like as a real person? Thanks to photoshop we can finally see it for ourselves.

Above is the untouched photo of a pretty model. I used this as my starting point. Then I made her eyes real small and moved them toward the center. Next I enlarged her nose, because to me a pretty doll has a large nose. Next and finally, I erased the eyebrows and gave her what I call a Noh eyebrows. Now I realize she may be unappealing to some, but I absolutely love her.

Preliminary sketches or projects I have been dreaming about for quite some time now.

I have been a fan of Punch and Judy ever since I can remember. So last night, during some down time, I sketched several versions of the famous duo. The two pictures seen here are the result. My first project is to make them as dolls , then after some more research make them as glove puppets.

Jennifer- WIP

This is one of my larger dolls. She is about 24 inches tall. Her name is Jennifer. She is a work in progress. I had to put her aside while I finished up some Christmas presents. Her hair is an acrylic wig. If any of my dollmaker friends have any tips about styling acrylic hair, I'd love to hear from you. Oh yes, one other thing, I wanted to thank Ute for all her advice with designing feet. I think my feet are getting better, but I still have a long way to go. Perhaps I need to sit down and sew 100 feet, attack my weakness head on. Back to Jennifer. Her costume still has a lot of work and I am going to make some sandals. I will post some more pictures. My Version of the Blue Fairy

Sometimes you just want to make a doll for yourself. You need to have variety or else dollmaking gets boring. I've been working on my Our Lady of Walsingham doll and drafting a new mermaid pattern, but somehow this goofy little blue doll just kinda came out of nowhere.
